Beavercreek, Ohio- Congressman Steve Austria (R-Beavercreek) today announced he is running for re-election for Ohio's 7th Congressional District.
"Over the past year the Democrat leadership in Congress, led by Speaker Nancy Pelosi, continues to take our nation in the wrong direction," Congressman Austria stated. "I oppose the runaway spending, borrowing and massive debt that has amassed over the past year which has hurt our economy. I am running to continue fighting for the hard-working families and businesses in Ohio's 7th Congressional District."
Austria is currently serving his first term in Congress and has been a strong advocate for businesses and families. As president of the Republican freshman class he called for more transparency in Congress and supported "Read the Bill" legislation, which would require time for members of Congress to read all bills before they vote on them.
The 7th Congressional District is made up of Clark, Greene, Fairfield, Fayette, Perry and Pickaway counties and parts of Ross and Franklin counties.
"There are families in this district that are struggling to make it paycheck to paycheck and many local businesses are struggling to make it payroll to payroll," Congressman Austria commented. "We need to get more Members in Congress who will listen to their constituents, the American people, to lower taxes, cut wasteful Washington spending and reduce the burdensome regulations that stifle small business growth and stop the explosive debt being placed on our children and grandchildren."
"It is a privilege to serve the constituents of the 7th Congressional District and I trust my constituents, the American people and small businesses who know best how to spend and invest in our economy to create real sustainable jobs in the private sector, not more temporary government jobs."
Previously Congressman Austria served 10 years in the state legislature and was a small business owner. He resides in Beavercreek with his wife of 23 years, Eileen, and three teenage sons. Austria serves on the House Budget Committee and House Homeland Security Committee.
In his first election for Congress in 2008, Austria garnered nearly 60 percent of the vote and was the only Republican to win an open seat in Ohio that year.
